Intention Setting For The New Year

Writing in Journal

One of my core guiding principles in life is intention.

It helps me move through the world with a greater sense of my why and thoughtfully creating a life I love.

Intention is the why behind everything we do.

Setting intentions is a powerful practice where we choose what it is we want and state it clearly. When things get a little chaotic or the path seems unclear, we can always return to our intention to get us back on track with clarity and purpose.

This is such a wonderful practice at the end of a year - to give yourself time to pause, reflect, and tune into what you want moving forward.

“Intention asks only this: What are you creating in your business now? And it doesn’t demand a quick answer. It asks you to relax and consider what’s evolving here, what’s coming out of this business - and this heart- of yours.”

~ Christine Kane

December 21, is the Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year. We’re officially in our cocoon of winter, a beautiful time for planting seeds for what’s to come.

Here are some questions to consider to help you create your own intention for what you’d like to create in your life and/or business in the coming year. Grab a journal, make yourself cozy, and answer the following prompts…

  • Intention Towards: Describe your dream or intention. Short form, long form, bullets, anything at all...just let it flow.

  • Intention From: This is what you know you don’t want. What are you moving away from?

  • Why do you want what you want? Refocus on your intention and list a few reasons why it’s important to you.

  • Who do you have to become in order to create what you want? List up to 5 changes you might need to make in order to bring your intention to life.

  • Are you IN? Review what you wrote and notice if it gets you energized. If it doesn’t, return to the drawing board and make some tweaks until you feel a whole-hearted YES for your intention.

I really enjoyed this exercise and I think you will too. I adapted it from Christine Kane’s book The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur.

There are limitless possibilities when it comes to running a business, following your purpose, and making a living serving others with your unique gifts.

You are worthy of every piece of the intentions you’re creating for yourself.
